Phoebe S and Rosalie A, both in Year 12, recently took part in the Holocaust Educational Trust’s ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ project. The project includes two seminars and a one-day visit to Austhwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, offering students the opportunity to learn about the Holocaust and its relevance today.
Each student has written about their experience:
Phoebe – I took part in the Holocaust Educational Trust day trip to Auschwitz as part of the Lessons from Auschwitz project. Whilst there, we joined students from other schools to visit both Auschwitz One and Birkenau. It was a very thought-provoking day which provided a real insight into the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance in an increasingly divided world.
Rosalia – Alongside students from other schools in the South West, we visited both Auschwitz One and Birkenau. It was a very moving and thought-provoking trip, which greatly added to my understanding of both the Holocaust and Jewish society prior to it, and its relevance today.
The project is an incredibly valuable and educational experience for the students who take part. A Year 13 student who took part in the project last year, Matilda H, is now a Student Ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust.
