News - Mar 11

F1 in Schools is an internationally recognised STEM competition that encourages young people to foster an interest in engineering and learn many important skills which can be implemented in the workplace. In the competition, students race a 1:20 scale model of an F1 car that their team engineers design and manufacture themselves, featuring their own logo and sponsors' logos. They must also present portfolios on months of hard work building up to the competition and get interviewed by judges.

On Friday 7th March, team Riptide Racing from Colyton Grammar School attended the South-West Regional Final, and became the Regional Champions for the Development class, meaning they are now eligible to advance to the National finals. Out of 22 other Development class teams, they also won the awards for Best Engineered Car and Best Team Identity and were nominated for Best Pit Display.

The national finals are on the 26th and 27th of March in Rotherham. The team needs funding to attend the competition in terms of transport and accommodation, but also to build more cars, improve their pit display and team identity, and further improve all other areas of the competition.

If your company would be at all interested in sponsoring an award-winning team to reach their full potential and represent their school and the South-West region at the National Finals of an international competition, please do get in touch. Riptide Racing would of course advertise your company, putting logos on various items including pit display, uniforms, social media, and cars, depending on how much you wish to donate. The Nationals event is live streamed on YouTube, providing space for your contribution to be recognised by a wide audience.

To be successful at Nationals, Riptide Racing would ideally need to raise £1000, in addition to the £500 they have in reserve from Regionals. This would be to cover costs of travel and accommodation as well as the printing of portfolios, and manufacturing of the car. If you would like to help them in any way, all donations are appreciated including relevant items from your company, but if it would be possible to donate £100 or more that would be greatly appreciated.

Please do get in touch with Riptide Racing as soon as possible if you feel you may be able to help, as they do not have much time until Nationals which happen on the 26th and 27th of March. Contact them at CGSRiptideRacing@colytongrammar.com or vcarter@colytongrammar.com for further information, and they thank you in advance for any support you can offer.
