News - Dec 10

This year, we have been able to enter another team of students from Year 12 into the EDT’s Industrial Cadets Gold project, again working with Amsafe Bridport.

Chun C, Benjamin K, Josh L, Will M, Alex S, Alan S, Reece T and Daniel X were given the brief of identifying new materials to replace those used in the HUSLE (Helicopter under-slung load equipment) nets produced by Amsafe in Bridport. They were primarily trying to improve the sustainability of this product., whilst also considering performance, required standards and commercial aspects. More details of this project, and what the students will gain from the whole process will be coming in the careers newsletter this term.

So far, the students taking part have been having weekly meetings with the two engineer mentors from Amsafe, and have also had the opportunity to visit the site where they were able to see the production facilities, inspect the HUSLE net construction up close, as well as meeting with senior engineers and managers. They presented their progress so far, explaining in detail the different materials they had researched and what benefits and drawbacks they offered as alternatives. They also discussed the next steps for the project, receiving extensive further guidance and ideas for other directions to take aspects for of their research. Their presentation and approach to the project was well praised by all present.
