Students compete in English Speaking Union Mace
BackNews - Nov 19
Luke T, Shine G and Freya A competed in the first round of the English Speaking Union Mace debating competition, securing a position in the next round by scoring highly for how responsive they were to the arguments of the opposition teams.
Their motion ‘This House supports the implementation of a four-day school week’, was challenging and they presented strong arguments in its favour. The standard of the competition was very high for round one, with one of the competing teams having reached the regional final last year, so it is an impressive achievement, considering that this was their first competitive debate experience.
We wish them every success in the next stage of the competition, which will be early next year. Thank you to Mr Hawkes for leading on this important activity that supports the development of oracy.
