Three of our students, Lottie S (Year 9), Eleanor T (Year 8) and Evelyn W (Year W) recently represented Exeter Girls Under 15 Water Polo at the Swim England National Age Group Finals.

Although the National Age Group Championships is for individual clubs, each club can draw players from other clubs in the region. In the case of Exeter, that means Taunton, Newton Abbot and a couple more. Exeter’s rivals are much larger clubs, 10 in total across the UK, with much bigger pools of girls to choose from. For example, Liverpool the runners up, can draw from about 20 clubs. Also, the way in which Water Polo age groups are decided, it is on your age on the 31st December of each year, so although Lottie is Year 9 and Eleanor and Evelyn are Year 8, they are actually Under 14s playing against Under 15s.

At the end of the two days of competition, Exeter came fourth having made it to the Bronze medal final, which is an amazing feat, especially against the opposition. Unfortunately, they lost in this match to the team representing Glasgow, who were essentially the national team made up of players predominately top of age group. The Exeter team played so well and were simply brilliant.

Lottie and Eleanor will also be representing South West Region Under 14 Girls in the Inter Regional National Competition in December and we wish them all good luck.
