Alison Hernandez, Police and Crime Commissioner, visits Colyton Grammar School
BackNews - Oct 18
On Tuesday we were fortunate to have the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Alison Hernandez visit us to talk to sixth-form students about a range of issues.
She began by giving a detailed explanation of her role – why it is an elected office, its constitutional position, and the power she has… and doesn’t have!
A key part of her work is collaborating with a range of agencies to achieve her aims. This includes working with other PCCs in the south-west and a prison governor to create a scheme in which prisoners are working to produce low-cost housing for homeless people. Some of her key focusses are victim support, rehabilitation of offenders, and youth crime. Students gave their thoughts on these matters, and other issues.
It was a very informative and interesting session – for the students and teachers present – and we were very grateful to Alison for taking the time to come to Colyton.
