On Wednesday 26th June, Colyton Grammar School participated in the fifth annual SWAT Challenge Cup, a competition between selective schools in the Southwest that challenges a team from each school to present a solution to a difficult, cross-curricular problem.
This year, the teams were tasked to propose a solution to the pressure on the NHS, the toughest challenge yet. Our team’s proposal of an NHS AI to streamline GP appointments and our plan to reform doctor contracts and training fees were praised by the judges, who consisted of senior policy managers in healthcare institutions and affiliated organisations. The team were also noted for the professionalism and clarity of their delivery and the strength of their research. Their strong performance secured them second place in a very tightly contested contest.
It is worth nothing that this presentation was completed by the team in addition to the normal demands of school and several students had to balance assessment week along with researching and preparing this presentation. Their dedication, thoughtfulness and willingness to compete is a fantastic testament to their scholarship.
