News - Dec 11

After a long and tedious eight-hour minibus trip, the boys arrived at Woodbridge, Suffolk on Saturday 2nd December ahead of the English Schools cross country cup finals. On arrival, they took themselves on a much-needed run to stretch the legs and get the blood pumping. This was followed by a ‘feast’ in the Beefeater restaurant adjacent to our Ipswich Premier Inn. The boys had no trouble ‘carb-loading’ before their big event.

The following is written by Miss Shute:

“We awoke to very icy conditions and so the spike length had to be carefully considered once we arrived at Woodbridge School. The course was inspected and then it was time for some retail therapy and some down time before their race which was the last one of the day at 2pm.

“It was as expected a very fast start and Colyton got our well. As the race progressed everyone settled into their own pace and tried to keep their position or even overtake if they felt they had the opportunity. No one tripped or fell, and everyone felt they had a good race and were pleased with their performance. Both Miss Hunt and I were very proud with the Colyton Team and were impressed with the group performance – they achieved their goal and met their top ten target. Superb!!”

The team should be very encouraged as they can all take part again next year and should be really pleased with their result as many of the runners were one or two years older than them.

Over 160 runners started the race. Our top four finishers were Martin F in 21st, Olly M in 30th, Robin in 52nd and Dylan T in 91st, with a total score of 194. Sam S and Oscar H also ran hard and were important too, keeping their positions and pushing another teams fourth place runners further back the pack. Overall, the team finished ninth out of 28 teams. ‘

Thank you to Miss Shute and Miss Hunt for leading and managing the team. This is a great result, and we are rightly proud of this team – well done!
