News - Nov 21

Rosie K, Justin S, Emily K and Joh F have recently become regional winners of the GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters) National Language Competition for South West England (including Guernsey and Jersey). Rosie and Justin are students of Mandarin and Emily and Joh are students of German.

The National Language Competition is a 5-day event aimed at Year 9 students (England/Wales), Year 10 students (Northern Ireland) and S3 for Scotland based students. It involves teams of up to four students working together to complete fun, immersive, language challenges hosted virtually.

Competitors tackle a range of these language-based puzzles, which range from easy to difficult encountering European languages, some of which are less commonly taught in schools and even some made up languages. Over the five days, students will capture flags to earn points on their language journey and these points will be totalled up to generate rankings on a national leaderboard.

There were over 500 schools taking part and our students ranked 11th on the overall league board.

A huge well done from us and from all at GCHQ to team Faithful Stormy Sheep.
