Colyton Grammar School celebrates combined South, East, and Southeast Asian Heritage Month
BackNews - Nov 16
Last week, we celebrated a combined South, East, and Southeast Asian Heritage Month. Like the more established Black, LGBT+, and Women’s History Months, the organisations for South Asian Heritage Month and East & Southeast Asian Heritage Month seek to spotlight the contributions and experiences of people who might typically be overlooked in modern Britain.
Students at Colyton had the opportunity to taste some fermented tofu, decorate the ground with chalk mandalas, try on some traditional costume and create patterns using henna. The high point of the event was a spectacular performance of traditional Bharatanatyam dance by Navi D in year 10.
Preparations are in progress for a similar celebration to mark recent Black History Month
