Netball, hockey and football round up
BackNews - Oct 19
In the East Devon Netball Tournament, our Under-14 team finished second, securing a place at the Devon Finals which are due to take place in late November. The girls had convincing wins over Axe Valley and Honiton, managed to secure a win following a tight game against Kings, and lost to the eventual winners of the day, Uffculme. The girls played well in slightly wet conditions and their commitment to netball at various local clubs was evident throughout the tournament. Congratulations, girls.
In football, there was great success as our Colyton Grammar School team were drawn against Clyst Vale in the second round of the English Schools Under-14 Football Cup. The team played fantastically on a full pitch playing 11 v 11 instead of the mini version. The game was end-to-end, and it was our girls who showed great depth and strength, winning 4-3. A special mention to Jasmin K for her composure in goal, pulling off many great saves.
Our Under- 14 hockey team travelled to Plymouth to play in the Devon Hockey tournament, where they played games against Exeter School, Kings, Maynard, Mount Kelly, Plymouth College, TGGS and West Buckland. We should have come third overall, but due to a rather hasty whistle in the circle, a goal we had scored was downgraded to a penalty corner. But never mind, the first two qualified for the regionals so it was not too costly. The team enjoyed the day and learnt from the experience, and next year we will be a stronger team.
