Playing at Plymouth Marjons, our team played well, enjoying the challenge and competition. They played against Mount Kelly, West Buckland, Exeter College, TGGS and Plymouth College.

In this under-18 Devon Hockey Tournament this year, we did struggle to convert our chances and missed out on reaching the regional round (drew two, lost three) but great team spirit was shown throughout the day and there were some great saves from Catherine W, our goalkeeper.

In the under-16 tournament, also held at Plymouth Marjons, our team played against Kings, West Buckland, TGGS and Plymouth College, winning one game, drawing another and losing three. It was a great team performance, with many Year 10s making up the squad who can play next year. It was a blow to be without our captain Georgia C, who is injured, but our girls all stepped up and were a credit to the school. They hope to do even better in next year’s competition.

Well done to everyone who took part. Skills are developing and everyone is enjoying that process. And the post-match refuelling at the ‘Golden Arches’ helped to ease the disappointment of the loss.

In rugby, our Colyton team played Uffculme and Kings, drawing one game and winning the other. The first game against Uffculme started with Colyton playing better, taking the lead 15-5 into half time. A special mention must go to Akein who scored an amazing individual try, running the full length of the pitch to score. Uffculme battled back scoring quickly in the second half, making the score 15-10. The pressure kept building and despite the efforts of Colyton defence’s, Uffculme finally broke through to score in the final play of the game: 15-15. A great match.

In the game against Kings, we had the experience of playing in wet conditions, and the team put together an impressive display of backs and forwards play to run in a total of six tries. Kings scored a consolation try at the end of the game: Colyton were winners 30-5.

Our under-14 boys’ rugby team welcomed Queen Elizabeth School for the first round of the Devon Cup competition. Conversions were vitally important in this tight affair. The two teams were evenly matched throughout, with brilliant scrums, rucks and passing skills on show. We were unlucky to miss out on the win, with the game ending with a score of 21-15.
