Colyton Grammar School students take part in ‘Music Sunday’ at St Gregory’s Church, Seaton and Axminster Lunchtime Recital Series

Although many of the key music events of this year’s school calendar have already taken place, this term we do have several community engagements coming up. Recently, a number of Colyton Grammar School students took part in ‘Music Sunday’, with some of our singers performing at St Gregory’s Church, Seaton, Evensong service.
It was a privilege to perform alongside St Gregory’s Church Choir, presenting ‘The Mountains Shall Bring Peace’, a Coronation Anthem written by Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, which was commissioned by the Royal School of Church Music as part of ‘The Sing for the King’ project encouraging all choirs to get involved in performing this anthem.
We were also joined by Mr Davis (former Head of Maths) and Naomi Lester (former Head Girl), and parents who were part of the congregation. Thank you to Mrs Lester, who took a break from celebrating Man City’s success to augment our alto line and Mr House who played the organ. This was a very enjoyable service, and we hope that in the future we can do more combined events with St Gregory’s Choir.
Also, the Year9 GCSE Music group have been working very hard on their original compositions and have been polishing off performances as part of the Axminster Lunchtime Recital Series. The programme included a flute solo by Rachel, a folk fiddle piece by Tess, and original works by Digory, Austin and Alex. Mrs Robert was proud to point out to the audience that as well as hearing the talented young musicians perform, they would also be witness to world premieres of new works. Well done, Rachel, Tess, Sofia, Blossom, Balraj, Digory, Austin, Alex, Michelle, Jacob and Isacc on stunning performances that were very much appreciated by the audience.
Looking forward, the Junior Choir has two more engagements; one at a Thursday Lunchtime Recital in Axminster and an evening performance at St Gregory’s Church, Seaton. Fifty of our musicians are also taking ABRSM exams in the penultimate week of term.
Well done to all our young musicians and thank you to Mrs Robert for your leadership and inspiration.
