Year 8 students visit Beer Quarry Caves

Students from Year 8 recently ventured into the heart of Devon history, visiting one of our most atmospheric local landmarks: Beer Quarry Caves. Entirely excavated by humans, these 2000-year-old caves stretch under the cliffs between Beer and Branscombe for more than 45 acres.
Year 8 experienced the chilling cold, the pitch darkness and the spine-tingling stories of the caves in preparation for writing their own Gothic stories. The students exemplified the very best of Colyton Grammar School: interested and inquisitive and immaculately behaved.
A huge thank you must go out to the expert guides at the Caves who entertained the students with some really creepy tales and the English department are looking forward to reading some cave-themed Gothic Horror in the next few weeks. A Beer Quarry Caves x Colyton Grammar School short story competition might also be in the offing – with a nice prize for the family of the winning writer.
