Ten Tors success for Colyton Grammar School students
BackNews - May 11
Recently, Colyton Grammar School students formed seven teams that successfully completed the Ten Tors 2023 event over either the 35 or the 45-mile distances.
Ten Tors is always a brilliant weekend that sees thousands of people celebrating the hard work and determination of students from all over the country. This year we had so many students taking part from Colyton Grammar school that we entered three teams into the 35-mile event and two into the 45-mile event, alongside three sets of students that joined with peers from St James and Isca schools to form further groups.
Selection to take part in this weekend is always difficult but it is based on fitness and the overall ability to complete the arduous trek safely. As a school, we would always enter more teams if we were allowed, and we are already the largest state school contributor to the event.
Ten Tors 2023 proved to be another amazing weekend and it an absolute privilege to watch and cheer on the students crossing the finish line. It is not about quick times but about completing the course as a team before the 5 o’clock finish.
Thank you to all the Colyton Grammar School students who took part, including those who faced the disappointment of not making the final selection.
The school community is extremely proud of the students’ achievements, their resilience, and their service to each other, and we hope that their feet are healing well and that everyone managed to get out of the deep mud of the carpark without too much difficulty.
Ten Tors is a potentially dangerous activity and requires careful preparation and planning. A huge thank you must go to Mrs Byron for her expert guidance and leadership alongside her team of parent and staff helpers as they enabled so many young people to feel so happy and proud with memories of the event that will last a lifetime.
