Alumna Dr Zoe Meldon (2009) visited us from the University of Plymouth to deliver a lecture on earthquake prediction and forecasting. She demonstrated earthquake formation, discussed the science of earthquake prediction and shared experiences from her career and research including her many media appearances. The lecture was well received by over 200 Geography students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13. Following the lecture, Dr Meldon then ran a workshop for Sixth Form Geographers in which they utilised the Gutenburg-Richter Law to estimate the date of the next magnitude eight earthquake in Southern California. We would like to thank Dr Meldon for adding her considerable expertise to enhance the scholarship of our students.
