How to Apply for the Sixth Form
APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE SIXTH FORM - SEPTEMBER 2020 ENTRY
The Published Admission Number (PAN) for Year 12 in September 2020 is 56. This is the number of places, which will be offered on an annual basis to eligible external applicants. Entry to the Sixth Form is not subject to coordination by the Local Authority.
Year 11 students at Colyton do not have to make a formal application for sixth form – they may move on to sixth form if they meet the academic criteria for the courses they wish to take. They can only be refused progression to the sixth form if they fail to meet any academic criteria for progression. The same academic criteria will be applied to all students, whether they are internal students seeking progression or external applicants seeking admission.
Current Colyton Grammar School (CGS) Year 11 students will be asked to complete their option choice online; completion of this process will be treated as their expression of interest to continue into CGS Sixth Form. Their form tutors will advise and guide them through this process. Internal students who submit their option choices before the deadline, and meet the admissions criteria have a guaranteed place. Please note the same entry requirements apply to internal and external applicants.
There is no entrance exam to join the Colyton Grammar School Sixth Form but external applicants need to fill in an online application form. Applications must be made directly to Colyton Grammar School using the online application form. Please contact the school if you are unable to make an online application.
The admissions process for routine admission into Year 12 in 2020/2021 begins in November. Applications must be made to Colyton Grammar School and NOT to the Local Authority. The application process will be made available from 15 November 2019 and parents/students should expect to receive an acknowledgement of their application.
As a State Funded Selective Academy, there are no tuition fees for the Sixth Form at Colyton Grammar School.
Deadline For Receipt of Applications
The closing date for applications is 31 January 2020.
Applications Received After The Deadline
Applications received after the deadline will be treated as late applications, but may be considered if submitted by 1 September 2020. Late applications will be considered once all on time applications have been dealt with.
Any information that is subsequently proven to have been provided fraudulently will potentially invalidate that application.
Any offer of a place in the Sixth Form will be conditional upon the GCSE results achieved by the student.
Entry Requirements Into The Sixth Form
The minimum entry requirements are the same for both internal and external applicants. Applicants are required to achieve a minimum of 54 points from the best eight GCSEs (or equivalent) including at least grade 5 at GCSE in English and Maths or a DfE recognised equivalency. The school will require a GCSE grade of at least A or grade 7 in any subject to be studied at A-Level, as specified in the Sixth Form Prospectus. The exception to this is that grade 8 is required for Further Mathematics.
The move to 54 points for September 2020 entry is coherent with recent GCSE reforms and the inclusion of a new grade 9 level of achievement.
Grade 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
Points 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
In any old style legacy grade GCSE subjects A* to G:
A* = 8.5, A = 7, B = 5.5, C = 4.
No more than three Science GCSEs, one Mathematics GCSE and one PE GCSE may count in the best eight subjects. Further details are in the Sixth Form Prospectus available on the school’s website.
In addition, external applicants, please download the 'Predicted Grades' form, complete and return to Colyton Grammar School.
