MR HARRIS SETS THE CHALLENGE
Mr Harris has been leading schools within the South West Academic Trust (SWAT) with their work on challenging students within the classroom.
Mr Harris, Head of History and Politics, is also the SWAT challenge coordinator, and works with each of the 12 grammar schools within the Trust to develop the quality of their classroom provision.
This has involved hosting events for students, organising competitions between the schools, running a training programme for staff, and presenting at the SWAT annual conference held at the University of Exeter. During this presentation, Mr Harris explained five core principles to embed in every lesson in order to create a positive culture of challenge within the classroom.
He will be extending his training programme next year, working with Colyton staff as well as the other SWAT schools to look at how we stretch our able students, within and beyond the classroom, and how we can prepare students to apply for the most ambitious university courses.
