Students from Colyton Grammar School (CGS) have again achieved excellent A-level results, far outstripping the national average for A and A* grades.
Some 65.9% of students achieved A and A* grades, compared with the national average of 26.4%. Overall, 86% achieved grades from A* to B.
Fifteen CGS students obtained at least three A* grades and six of these achieved an astonishing four A* grades. Ten students are holding offers from Oxbridge and a further ten have places on medical and veterinarian courses. In all, some 108 CGS students sat A-level examinations in a range of subjects. Although every subject area performed very well there are some remarkable outcomes in some areas. In Art and French every student, 100%, obtained either an A* or an A grade. In Mathematics 70% earned an A*/A grade and in Religious Studies the figure was an outstanding 80%. These results not only illustrate the fact that Colyton Grammar School is a leading school for scholarship but also that our standards are very high across a large range of subjects.
Tim Harris, Headteacher at CGS, commented: “This is a wonderful achievement and I am delighted with yet another fantastic set of A-level results. This year’s results are even more impressive as they have been obtained against a backdrop of significant curriculum reform with the return to linear examinations. This success is due to the resilience and hard work of students and school staff. Also, I am indebted to the tremendous support of our parents. It is through this partnership and mutual trust that such outstanding results can be achieved.”
He added: “In addition to the excellent A-level results the outcomes for the Extended Project Qualification were simply brilliant. 98% of entries obtained grade A*/A and 67% of these were at A* grade. This qualification is highly regarded by universities and these results emphasise just how well our students are prepared for their next steps at university and beyond.”
CGS remains committed to providing high quality post-16 education within East Devon, with plans to increase its sixth-form to allow more local students to prepare for A-level and beyond.
